Red the missing bloodhound is back home safe and sound.
A Moncks Corner resident found the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office tracking dog June 22, the same day he dug out of his handler's kennel, said Dan Moon, sheriff's office public information officer.
The resident found the dog in the parking lot of a hardware store less than a quarter of a mile from the kennel.
A relative of the man who found the dog read a newspaper story about Red on Sunday and notified the sheriff's office that she knew where the dog was, Moon said.
The 3-year-old bloodhound's orange collar, which identified him as belonging to the sheriff's office, reportedly was missing from the dog when the resident found him, Moon said.
No charges will be filed in connection with the case.
"We're happy to have him back," Moon said.
