Two North Charleston men have been arrested in connection with a shooting and robbery Sunday that left one person dead and another injured in the city’s Russelldale community.

Thomas Lamont Ancrum, 23, of Van Buren Avenue, and Jamal Lameek Smalls, 24, of Railroad Avenue each face charges of murder, armed robbery and attempted murder.

The North Charleston Police Department said in a statement this morning that it expects more arrests in the shooting that left Anthony Watley III, 23, of Jason Street dead and DeAngelo Antwan Scott, 24, of Greenbay Drive with a gunshot wound in the back.

Police officers responded at 2:33 p.m. Sunday to the report of gunfire near 2253 Rebecca St.

One officer found Scott, who is known at “Boobie,” and tended to the wound in his back.

Another officer soon found Watley, who was later pronounced dead at Medical University Hospital.

At the scene, a large group of people gathered, and witnesses yelled various descriptions of possible suspects, according to an incident report.

“There were four guys all in black,” one yelled, according to the report. “They robbed Boobie.”

Others described seeing only two assailants, including one dressed in a red shirt and another riding a bicycle.
