Henry McMaster's new dog Mac

COLUMBIA — South Carolina has a new first dog.

Gov. Henry McMaster and his wife, Peggy, introduced an 11-week-old new bulldog puppy named Mac in a one-minute video posted Sunday on social media.

"Prettiest little dog in the whole wide world," South Carolina's chief executive said while petting the puppy named after his father-in-law. "And he's getting sleepy — right now. Getting sleepy. I see your little eyes closing."

McMaster said Mac is "filling the big hole in our hearts" after the passing of Boots, another family bulldog who died at age 6 in March after a bout with cancer.

Mac could become a media star like Boots if he gets a starring role in the governor's campaign next year. McMaster featured Boots in television spots during his successful 2014 bid for lieutenant governor.
