MOUNT PLEASANT — A 29-year-old man peacefully surrendered to police late Monday after barricading himself inside his house in the Ravens Run subdivision for more than seven hours, police said.

Police were called to a home on Omni Boulevard about 3 p.m. to check on a depressed man who had locked himself in his bedroom with a shotgun, a rifle and a 9 mm pistol, police said. He did not make any threats toward himself or others, according to a police report.

The police SWAT team was alerted and negotiators began a long series of talks, trying to convince him to come out, Sgt. Steve Meadows said.

The man surrendered some time after 10:30 p.m. and was taken into protective custody without incident, Meadows said. He was transported to Medical University Hospital to be evaluated, he said.

Police have not charged the man with any crime, Meadows said.
