Authorities say a man was shot in the leg during a scuffle at a Summerville-area nightclub early Monday.

The shooting occurred at Club NV, formerly Uncle Willie's Social Club, at 401 N. Maple St. in Summerville, Dorchester County sheriff's Lt. Tony Phinney said.

As deputies responded to the scene about 2:40 a.m., a Summerville police officer was flagged down on U.S. Highway 17A by a man who had been shot at the club, Phinney said.

Jamie A. Fernandez, 34, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper thigh. He was taken to Medical University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Phinney said.

He said the victim and several witnesses, some of whom showed up at the Sheriff's Office, have not been cooperative with detectives.

He said the shooting happened apparently after someone was asked to leave the club.
