A judge on Tuesday sentenced a Goose Creek man to just over 19 1/2 years in federal prison on weapons charges.
U.S. District Judge P. Michael Duffy sentenced Robert L. Gillikin, 44, on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possessing stolen weapons.
Gillikin was arrested July 4, 2009, after a witness reported that he was riding a mo-ped with a shotgun wrapped in a towel. When Goose Creek police officers attempted to stop him, Gillikin kept driving until he wrecked. He ran from officers but was caught by a bystander, according to William Nettles, U.S. Attorney for South Carolina.
Nettles said the judge sentenced Gillikin as an armed career criminal and career offender.
