North Charleston police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found early today.

Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Stone Pine Court in St. Charles Place Apartments about 1 a.m. for a report of a body on the ground in the area, according to public information officer Spencer Pryor.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive black male lying on the ground, Pryor said. He characterized the man's death as suspicious.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay identified the victim as Marcques Armstrong, 19, of North Charleston. She said Armstrong was not a resident of the apartment complex where his body was found. She would not specify how he had died or if foul play is suspected, deferring questions to the police department.

Pryor said the investigation is ongoing.
