[caption id="attachment_2009" align="alignright" width="200"] Chef Nate Whiting will serve as executive chef of 492, a new Upper King restaurant.[/caption] Another upscale restaurant will likely move into the Market Street dining room scheduled to be vacated at the end of April by Tristan, the realtor leasing the property says. “We’ll be looking for an established local or regional operator,” Richard Morse of Palmetto Commercial Properties says. “We want to grab someone who’s well known in the area.” The Relish Restaurant Groups, which operates Tristan, earlier this week announced the 12-year old restaurant’s impending closure.  Chef Nate Whiting will continue to oversee Tristan Catering, and will help develop a new restaurant for the company. According to a press release , Whiting will “creat(e) a concept that is reflective of his own vision” at 492. “492 will have his input on everything from the menu to the kitchen design to the logos and the seating,” spokeswoman Angel Powell says. Located at 492 King, the new restaurant is aiming to open by the fall. Eddie and Sharon Toporek in 2002 opened Tristan; as Sharon Toporek told Nation’s Restaurant News, “our goal was to carve a niche for ourselves in a fine restaurant city by reflecting the fact that Charleston has become a much more cosmopolitan city.”  Two years, a AAA Four Diamond award and a Wine Enthusiast write-up later, the Toporeks abruptly closed the restaurant, citing personal reasons. Jerry and Anita Zucker eventually took over the 10-year lease. “They’re basically letting the lease expire,” Morse says of the current situation. The restaurant space on the ground floor of the French Quarter Inn is 5800 square feet. It’s listed for $261,000.
