The Hanahan Hawks won their second straight Class AA state wrestling championship with a 40-34 victory over Emerald this afternoon at Dreher High School.

The score was tied 12-12 after four matches, but the Hawks pulled away and clinched the win when J.J. Johnson pinned his opponent in about 30 seconds in the 120-pound division.

Hanahan finished with a 21-7 record while Emerald fell to 18-2.

"The kids have a lot of heart," Hanahan coach Ray Adkins said. "They worked real hard, real hard with hopes of getting back to this."
