Man charged with robbery

SUMMERVILLE -- A 31-year-old Summerville man is charged with armed robbery in connection with the Monday morning hold-up of a dry-cleaning business on Dorchester Road, authorities said.

A man walked into Davis Dry Cleaners at Oakbrook Shopping Center about 7:15 a.m., implied he had a weapon, and threatened to kill the clerk, Dorchester County sheriff's Maj. John Garrison said. The robber grabbed the cash, which was less than $100, and left the store, Garrison said.

Witnesses told deputies the robber ran away.

Sheriff's deputies and Summerville police searched the area around Midland Parkway and Old Trolley Road until they found a suspect behind a house on Spring Meadows Drive, just off Beverly Drive.

The man fought with officers, who eventually took him into custody, Garrison said.

William David Hill Jr., of West 5th North Street, is charged with armed robbery, Garrison said. He was being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
