A Charleston man was charged with DUI after authorities said his car struck and killed a man in West Ashley early Sunday.
Charleston police charged Matthew Joseph Wardwell, 40, with driving under the influence, according to Charles Francis, public information officer. Authorities said Daughn Clow, 71, was struck on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard near S.C. Highway 61 about 12:30 a.m.
Francis said Wardwell was not charged with felony DUI because he was not found at fault for the incident that caused Wardwell's death. The pedestrian took the driver's right of way, Francis said.
