A man accused of hijacking a car in Dorchester County Sunday morning is believed to have just committed an armed robbery in St. George and also was wanted on a murder charge in Florida, according to Highway Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres.
The S.C. Highway Patrol got a call about 8:14 a.m. that a man was lying on the side of I-26 east around mile marker 172. Ten minutes later, a Dorchester County dispatcher said two women had pulled over to check a man lying by the side of the road, and the man stole their red Kia.
A trooper positioned himself at mile marker 184 to wait for the car, then got behind it when it passed. The driver fled until he hit stop sticks set up by sheriff's deputies around exit 194. The trooper arrested the driver and recovered a handgun, according to Beres.
Corey Jamaine Dozier, 31, of Jacksonville, Fla., was charged with failure to stop for a blue light and driving under suspension. A check showed he also was wanted for an armed robbery in St. George on Sunday morning and a slaying in Florida, Beres said. Dozier is being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center.
The sheriff's office is investigating, Maj. John Garrison said. He declined to release further information, including a photo, until today.
