A Charleston man who took a woman home from a gentleman's club and held her against her will despite a SWAT team outside was arrested after his father talked him into surrendering Monday.

Johnny Jenkins, 34, is charged with kidnapping and assault and battery of a high aggravated nature.

About 5:47 a.m. Monday, a woman dialed 911 from a cell phone to say she was being held against her will at 1843 Doscher Ave., Charleston Police Public Information Officer Charles Francis said. The woman said she was taken from Thee Southern Belle, where she works, on Friday by a man she had dated within the past year. She said she had locked herself in a bathroom at the house and needed help, Francis said.

Police arrived and could not make contact with Jenkins inside the house. A SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Unit also were called out and could not get Jenkins to talk, Francis said. Police called Jenkins' father, who called his son and talked him into surrendering, Francis said.

Police searched the house and found two handguns and three assault rifles and two swords inside, Francis said.

The woman was taken to Medical University Hospital. Information on her condition was not available.
