An 18-year-old North Charleston man was arrested on a weapons charge Tuesday after a student at Chicora Elementary School told teachers he had seen a male pointing a handgun at students.

The incident occurred at 7:45 a.m. and the school was immediately placed on administrative lockdown, according to an report released Thursday by the North Charleston Police Department.

The student told police he saw a male point a handgun in the direction of students walking to school. Using a description provided by the witness, police found the male and the handgun in a nearby house.

Monterio Jarquez Brown, of Bonds Avenue, is charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun and possession of a stolen pistol.

He was being held in the Cannon Detention Center on $30,000 bail set Wednesday.
