A 28-year-old Charleston man was arrested this week on charges that he sent child pornography to an official at Burke High School in an attempt to get a student expelled.

Brian Javon Sherald of Isabella Street faces a count of second-degree exploitation of a minor and was jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bail.

In January, a secretary at the school received a video via email of minors having sex, according to incident reports from the Charleston Police Department.

It was said to involve students at the school but later proved to be a pornographic video from Baltimore, the reports said.

Investigators later were told by a parent at the school that Sherald sent the video “maliciously in an attempt to get her juvenile son expelled,” the reports said.

According to the reports, Sherald also contacted the police and said that he downloaded the video, offering to email it to an investigator. He instead copied the file to a DVD and handed it over to the police, the reports said.

Investigators searched Sherald’s computer and email accounts and obtained an arrest warrant in February.

He was taken into custody Monday.

Under the felony charge for distributing porn, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
