SUMMERVILLE -- A trapeze artist reportedly fell Sunday afternoon while performing at the Walker Brothers Circus. A witness told The Post and Courier he fell as much as 20 feet or more.

The artist's name and condition were not immediately available. Reports indicated he was taken to a local hospital.

The event was being held at the Summerville YMCA at the Ponds Subdivision, an attendee said.

Eyewitness Jerry Nelson said the performer was on the trapeze about five minutes when he fell. "He just seemed to slip and down he came," Nelson said.

Paramedics were on the scene immediately, Nelson said.

A call to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department was not immediately returned Sunday night.
