The crew of the Charleston-based Coast Guard cutter Gallatin seized 1,957 pounds of cocaine from a fishing vessel in the Caribbean Sea.

The Coast Guard announced Monday that on Nov. 20, the crew boarded a 40-foot fishing vessel, located 37 bales of cocaine and detained four suspected smugglers who were then taken to Florida. The cocaine has an estimated wholesale value of more than $23.5 million, the Coast Guard said.
