MIAMI -- A Charleston-based Coast Guard cutter intercepted a vessel with 2,300 pounds of marijuana onboard Oct. 26 in the Caribbean Sea, officials said.
The Coast Guard said the crew of the Gallatin, a 378-foot cutter homeported in Charleston, stopped a 30-foot vessel. The contraband was transferred to the Confidence, a cutter homeported in Port Canaveral, Fla.
The Confidence off-loaded the marijuana and 886 pounds of cocaine, seized earlier in a separate incident, at Coast Guard Sector Key West on Tuesday, officials said.
The cocaine was seized Oct. 14 by the Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment from Tactical Law Enforcement Team South in Opa Locka, Fla.
