Walk Against Violence
The National Council of Jewish Women, Charleston Section, and the Mount Pleasant Police Department Victim Services Unit are hosting Untying the Strings of Violence, the fourth annual 5K Run/Walk Against Domestic Violence event, at 8 a.m. Sept. 25 at Mount Pleasant Waterfront Memorial Park.
All proceeds will go to help support the Domestic Violence Poster Campaign and to create an emergency fund for violence victims.
Entry fee is $20 for adults; $15 for those under 18. Register at www.ncjwcharleston.org or at www.active.com. There will be an additional $5 late registration fee on the day of the race. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. The first 100 participants will receive a prize pack complete with products donated by sponsors. They will be available the day of the race.
Charleston Sail and Power Squadron will teach America's Boating Course 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sept. 24.
The course will cover coastal boating activity, including navigation basics, wind and tides, docking, VHF radio use, GPS and anchoring and boating in adverse condition. A day will be spent on the water in squadron boats to practice.
Free courses will be offered for youths ages 10-18.
Classes will be at squadron headquarters at 1376 Orange Grove Road.
