Local students attend leadership workshop

Students from Mason Preparatory School in Charleston and St. Paul's Academy in Hollywood attended the Junior High School Leadership Workshop sponsored by the South Carolina Independent School Association.

Mason Prep students traveling to Orangeburg for the event were Emma DeMuth, Annie Cribb and Grace Gelken, accompanied by their chaperon, Tammy DeMuth.

St. Paul's students were Nathan Lowry and Julianna Puschel. Carl Yackey was their sponsor.

Lyndi Bonnette led a team building game with each school's representatives working together.

Chris Coker, president of the South Carolina Independent Schools Student Association, spoke to the group of 57 students and sponsors, challenging the youths to set good examples for their fellow students.

Mike Fanning, SCISA athletic director, presented several activities that taught lessons on effective leadership.

Bonnette also conducted a session on how to conduct an effective meeting.
