At the start of National Library Week, the Friends of the Library will be holding a Membership Drive at all 16 branches, April 8-21.

The branches will be competing to see who can acquire the most memberships in the two-week time period. The winning group will receive a special reward for each of their employees and bragging rights of winning the competition in 2012.

Membership forms will be available in each branch. You can join by check, cash, or credit card right at your local branch.

The Charleston Friends of the Library support additional library resources such as the Summer Reading Program, Met Opera Series, Blues Bash, Educational community programming and author talks to include more than 4,700 programs annually.

They fundraise through book sales at branches and online at www.shopcharlestonlibraryfriends.org, memberships and donations. The Friends take donations of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs at all 16 branch locations throughout the year.

Being a Friend of the Library gains you early admission to all book sales, numerous volunteer opportunities and tax-deductible membership dues.

Member Levels: $20 Individual; $35 Family; $100 Sponsor; $500 and up Benefactor. Membership runs Jan. 1-Dec. 31.
