JI All-Stars win Babe Ruth district title

The city of Charleston-James Island 13-15 Babe Ruth All-Stars won the District Championship at Bees Landing. The City of Charleston-James Island 13-15 Babe Ruth All-Stars won the District Championship at Bees Landing, defeating Mount Pleasant, 12-2, in the title game. It was a district repeat for the team, which is made up of players from three James Island league teams who participate within the City of Charleston’s seven-team league.

James Island batters hit a grand slam home run in each tournament game. Hunter Mixson, a center fielder-shortstop, had a grand slam in James Island’s first win. Pitcher-first baseman Austin Massenburg had the second grand slam and third baseman Zane Taylor had the third grand slam. Massenburg also pitched a complete game in James Island’s 12-2 opening-game win over Mount Pleasant.

The team got great pitching performances, allowing only four runs, and batted .388. James Island also had 16 stolen bases and scored 24 runs in two games.
