Hanahan Middle School won a $15,000 first prize in Lexus and Scholastic’s national Eco Challenge.

Hanahan Middle School was one of eight national finalists of the 2011-12 Lexus Eco Challenge, Lexus and Scholastic announced.

The program awards scholarships and grants to middle and high school teams for creating innovative environmental projects.

Hanahan and the other first place teams each won $15,000: $3,000 for the school, $2,000 for the teacher adviser and $10,000 for scholarships for the students.

This year was Hanahan’s third time as one of the program’s finalists.

Team members include Murray Burn, Parker Futrell, Adeline Nguyen, Anna Sieger, Madeline Vick, Johnna Wallace, Katelyn Wilson, Brittany Young and Jessica Young.

Alexandra Davis served as the team’s teacher adviser.
