The South Carolina State Guard has announced that Sgt. Jonathan Knapp of Charleston has graduated from the Basic Training Course.

Among the subjects he studied during the course were drill and ceremony, military courtesies, uniform dress codes and rank recognition.

Knapp is a member of Third Brigade HHC.

He is the son of Dave and Gail Knapp.

Air Force Airman Robert T. Polk graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the son of Jinni Bullard and Oswald Polk, both of Charleston.

Polk graduated in 2009 from James Island Charter High School.

Civilian Rosalyn M. Holmes, daughter of Rebecca Washington of Ravenel and Eddie R. Washington of Charleston, recently enlisted in the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C.

The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiters as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

Holmes will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy’s Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

Holmes is a 2005 graduate of Baptist Hill High School.
