Folly Pier Fishing Tournaments: Sept. 17, 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Folly Beach Fishing Pier. An adult chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Held rain or shine. Online registration now available, but will end at midnight Thursday. On-site registration available and will begin at 6 a.m. Tournaments end at 4 p.m. and prizes are awarded at 4:15 p.m. Call 588-3474. Fee: $14/$12 CCR Discount.

Jump in the Park: Sept. 17, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. James Island County Park. Kids will love the jump castles and other inflatable equipment. An adult chaperon is required for all participants. Age: 3-12. Fee: $5.

Yappy Hour at James Island County Park: Sept. 22, 4 p.m.-sunset. James Island County Park Dog Park. Join group after work at the James Island County Park dog park for beverages and live music by singer Nathan Calhoun. This event is free with regular park admission. Outside alcohol and coolers are prohibited.

Moonlight Mixer: Sept. 23, 7-11 p.m. Folly Beach Fishing Pier. Dance the night away under the stars at the Folly Beach Fishing Pier as local DJ Jim Bowers spins oldies and beach music. Ages 3 & up. Fee: $10/$8 Charleston County resident (CCR) Discount/$10 on-site if still available.

20th Annual Latin American Festival: Oct. 2, noon- 6 p.m. Wannamaker County Park. All ages will enjoy live salsa and merengue music performed by bands West End Mambo and Bachaco, as well as dance demonstrations and a salsa dance contest. No pets, outside food or beverages permitted. Fee: $10 adults or 6 Greenbax; $5 for students or military personnel (with valid ID); free: Gold Pass Holders & ages 12 & under.

Sept. 21, 28: College Day at James Island County Park's Climbing Wall. Noon-7 p.m. Come check out the climbing wall. College students with a valid college ID will receive a free harness and shoe rental with the regular price of admission. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $10.

Sept. 15, 24, 26: Intro to Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) at James Island County Park. 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Get started right with instruction in safety and proper technique that will allow you to progress comfortably at your own pace. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $18/$15 CCR Discount.

Sept. 22-25: Sea Kayak Instructional Classes: ACA Fundamentals of Coastal Kayaking. 7- 9 p.m. (Thu.) & 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (Sat & Sun.). ACA certified instructors will cover basic strokes and maneuvers, rescues, navigation, wind, waves, tides, and currents. After an evening of instruction and a day on the water practicing, you'll head out to the coast or marshes for a day trip to use all new skills. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 & up. Sept. 23: Beachwalker Bird Walks at Kiawah Beachwalker Park. 8:30 -11 a.m. We will hike nearly two miles of pristine beach looking for a variety of birds. Pre-registration is required. A registered chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 12 & up. Fee: Free.
