Nov. 4: Registration deadline for the Holiday Festival of Lights Gingerbread House Competition. Warm up those ovens, gather up sugar and spices, and add a spoonful of creativity, because it's time to be part of the annual Holiday Festival of Lights Gingerbread House Competition. Nov. 4-6: Harvest Festival Trail Ride at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. Bring your horse, camping gear and supplies for two nights of camping and trail riding at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. The registration fee includes dinner Saturday evening, breakfast Sunday morning, and admission into the Harvest Festival on Nov. 5. Pre-registration required by noon Nov. 4. Nov. 5: Harvest Festival at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Celebrate this year's harvest season at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center on Johns Island. The festival features foods, a crafters' market, children's activities, bluegrass entertainment and more. No outside food or beverages permitted. Nov. 9 & 10: Holiday Festival of Lights Fun Run/Walk. The Fun Run and Walk has expanded to two nights. Race begins at 6:30 p.m. each night. After the 2-mile run/walk, participants are invited to enjoy the festival's amenities. Socialized dogs on a short leash are allowed. The park will close to all traffic at 6:30 p.m. and will not be reopened until about 8:30 p.m. Participants must be pre-registered and have an admission ticket (not receipt) to gain event/park entry. Online registration will end at 4 p.m. Nov. 8 (unless sold out prior to that date). Admission is $12 on or before Nov. 7, then increases to $15 for ages 3 and up on Nov. 8 (if available). Nov. 11: Holiday Festival of Lights Grand Opening Celebration. Kick off the 2011 Holiday Festival of Lights season. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Park Center at James Island County Park. Activities include a tree lighting ceremony, the announcement of the postcard and gingerbread competition winners. Free with regular admission.
Nov. 12: Where the Wild Things Run 5K at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Race starts at 4 p.m. The run features the trails of Caw Caw Interpretive Center. An award ceremony with light food and beverages will be held immediately following the race. Online and pre-registration will end Nov. 11. Late registration will take place at packet pickup, which will be 2-3:30 p.m. the day of the event. Participants ages 10-15 can register for this course, but must be accompanied by an adult chaperon. Nov. 5, 6, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 26, 30: Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 8:30 a.m.-noon. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-in registrations are welcome. A chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Fee: $5/free for Gold Pass Holders.
Nov. 9, 16, 23, 30: College Day at James Island County Park. Noon-7 p.m. Climbing is a fun way to get into shape and to meet new people. It also is a great social activity. College students with a valid college ID will receive a free harness and shoe rental with the regular price of admission. Registration is not necessary. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $10.
Nov. 5: Birding Trips: Huntington Beach Haul. 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Look and listen for birds just passing through and those that make South Carolina home. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $21/$17 CCR Discount.
