Through Dec. 4: Master Naturalist: Master Naturalist (Meets Weekly) at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (Sept. 11-Dec. 4). This session meets every Tuesday. CCPRC and Clemson University are offering the Certified Master Naturalist (MN) program for people interested in understanding and protecting the state’s valuable natural resources. Sept. 22: Carolina Blues at Palmetto Islands County Park. 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Join historical specialist to examine the legacy of Carolina Indigo. Sept. 22: Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Trips: James Island Marsh Tour at James Island County Park. 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Stop by James Island County Park and launch an SUP from the crabbing dock. Explore this often-missed section of the park, and enjoy the great views at high tide in the salt marsh. This trip is recommended to those who already have the basics of SUPing or have a moderate to high level of athleticism before signing up for this tour. Sept. 28: Beachwalker Bird Walks at Beachwalker Park. 8:30-11 a.m. The southwestern end of Kiawah Island is an excellent place to spot seabirds and shorebirds. Group will hike nearly two miles of pristine beach looking for a variety of birds, including raptors and songbirds. A registered chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 12 & up. Sept. 28: After-Work Paddling Trips: Charleston Harbor Moonrise Paddle at Off-Site Location. 5:30-8:30 p.m. Group will paddle from Sunrise Park past the Battery, to Wappoo Cut Boat Landing while the moon is rising. Pre-registration required. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $36/$30 CCR discount.

Sept. 29: Boy Scout Merit Badge: Canoe Merit Badge at James Island County Park. 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. This class meets all the requirements for obtaining the Canoe Merit Badge, except First Aid and Leave No Trace. During this course, you’ll learn boating safety, padding technique, rescues and more. Age: 10-17. Fee: $36/$30 CCR discount.

Sept. 29: Local Canoe Trips: Long Savannah Rice Fields Canoe Tour at CCPRC Headquarters. 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Group will explore one of our most remote sites in the Lowcountry. Putting in at Bulow Landing, and with the tides just right, group will head up one channel, have lunch and then circle back down among the old rice fields that once covered the area. Sept. 29: Junior Naturalist: Barrier Island Exploration at Isle of Palms County Park. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants will learn about natural treasures by pulling a seine net, digging for animals in the sand, and exploring the dynamic shoreline. Sept. 29: Hidden Histories: Native American Shell Ring in Awendaw at CCPRC Headquarters. 1-4 p.m. There are numerous Native American shell deposits scattered throughout South Carolina’s coast. Investigate a site right here in Charleston County and uncover what it can tell us about the people who once dominated this area.
