Mount Pleasant Pier Fishing Tournaments: 6 a.m.-4 p.m. June 2. Enjoy fishing at the foot of the Ravenel Bridge on Charleston Harbor. Prizes are awarded for the largest gamefish catch in these categories: Adult Angler, Lady Angler, Youth Angler (3-12), Senior Angler (60+), and Total Weight of five fish. On-site registration June 2 beginning at 6 a.m. Tournament held rain or shine. An adult chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 3 & up. Fee: $12/$9.
Bikinis and Boardshorts 5K Run: 10 a.m. June 2 at Laurel Hill Plantation. The 5K race will take place on the trails of Laurel Hill Plantation in Mount Pleasant. Participants will enjoy a fun awards ceremony with light food and beverages, an inflatable water slide, and live music. Online and preregistration ends June 1. On-site registration will take place on race morning 8-9:30 a.m. at packet pickup. Participants ages 10-15 can register for this race, but must be accompanied by an adult chaperon. Early Morning Bird Walks: 8:30 a.m. June 2, 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27, 30 at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Walk through distinct habitats to view and discuss a variety of birds, butterflies and other organisms. Preregistration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Fee: $5
Adaptive Paddling: Adaptive Kayak Workshop and Paddling Intro 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 2 at James Island County Park. Explore the possibilities of adaptive kayaking in a comfort and safety oriented class. Explore boat adaptations to help make the sport of kayaking work harmoniously with your physical disability. After you become comfortable in your boat, this entry-level course instructed by our ACA-certified instructors, will teach basic strokes, technique, and safety. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $42/$35.
Introduction to Climbing: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. June 2 at James Island County Park. Class designed to introduce you to climbing. Learn about gear, basic knots, technique, and how to belay. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to take a belay test upon their next visit to The Climbing Wall. Age: 14 & up. $24/$20 CCR discount. Preregistration required.
Parent and Child Trips, Charleston Harbor Sea Kayak: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. June 2. Paddle a tandem kayak on this excursion from Sunrise Park to a nearby beach. Experience the sights and sounds of the harbor, with views of Fort Sumter, and a seaside picnic. This program is for children and their parents. Carolina Blues at Caw Caw: 1-2:30 p.m. June 2: Wondering why South Carolina’s state flag is blue? Join our historical specialist to examine the legacy of Carolina Indigo. 100% cotton cloth is required for those participating in dyeing activity. Sea Kayak Trips, Fort Sumter and Charleston Harbor: 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 3. Paddle to Fort Sumter. Depart from Sunrise Park, paddle through Charleston Harbor to the historic fort. After exploring, return with the incoming tide. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $48/$40
How to Belay: 6-8 p.m., June 5, 12, 19, 26 at James Island County Park. Learn to belay in this abbreviated version of popular Introduction to Climbing class. Age: 14 & up. Fee: $12/$10

Explore Your Parklands at McLeod Plantation: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. June 9. McLeod Plantation on James Island survives as one of the most significant historic sites in the state. Explore McLeod’s multifaceted history and discuss future prospects. Access to the main house is not included in the tour. A registered and paid chaperon is required for ages 15 and under. Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Trips: 12:30-3:30 p.m. June 9. James Island SUP’er Marsh Tour at James Island County Park. Launch a SUP from the crabbing dock. Explore this section of the park and views at high tide in the salt marsh. We recommend these trips to those who already have the basics of SUPing or have a moderate to high level of athleticism before signing up for a 3-hour tour. Age: 16 & up. $36/$30 CCR discount.
