Music student wins Charleston Academy of Music piano student Jenny Yao competed in the solo and concerto categories at the S.C. Music Teachers Association State Pre-College Auditions at the USC School of Music in Columbia.

Yao won first place in both categories in her age division.

She will perform at 4 p.m. May 20 at the SCMTA Pre-College Honors Recital at the USC School of Music.

Yao studies piano with CAM instructor Irina Pevzner.

Washington & Lee The following Washington and Lee University students were named to the dean’s list status for the recently ended winter 2012 term:

Charleston: Catherine Brockinton, Betsy Cribb, Casimir Danielowski, Blair Gillespie, Elisabeth Hundley, Patricia Kirkland, Zackary Richards.

Mount Pleasant: Cameron Wilhoit.

Local ADDY awards Graphic design student Brian Smart received two local ADDY awards. Smart studies at The Art Institute of Charleston, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta.

Smart received the gold student ADDY award for his recipe card set and a silver ADDY award for Famine in Somalia.

As a Gold ADDY award winner his entry will be entered into the next level of competition.

Smart lives on Johns Island and is an Air Force veteran who did video production and combat photography while serving.

The awards honor creative excellence in advertising.
