A Charleston man was arrested after a fatal crash in Jasper County on Sunday morning.

Ludvin Jonathan Andrez-Gonzalez, 20, of Charleston was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition south on I-95 at mile marker 29 in Jasper County at 7:09 a.m. when he fell asleep, ran off the right side of the interstate and crashed, according to Highway Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres. A passenger, who has not been identified, was ejected and died, according to Beres.

Andrez-Gonzalez fled the scene, but the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office brought in dogs to track him down in a wooded area near the collision scene about four hours later, Beres said. Andrez-Gonzalez was charged with leaving the scene of a death, driving too fast for conditions and not having a S.C. driver's license. He is being held at the Jasper County Detention Center.
