One woman tried to snatch another woman's purse early Sunday in North Charleston, but the woman fought back and kept the purse.

The employee of the Kmart Super Center on Rivers Avenue arrived for work about 6 a.m., and as she walked across the parking lot to the store, a woman asked for change and a cigarette, a police report said.

It said that when the victim told her she had neither, the woman grabbed her purse. The two women struggled for control of the bag, until the victim fell to the ground and the suspect gave up.

The would-be purse snatcher left in a tan van. She was described as white, age 22 to 26, 5-feet 2-inches tall and 120 pounds.
