MOUNT PLEASANT -- The reward for information in the case of the kitten tossed off the Ravenel Bridge is up to $2,000.

Representatives from Pet Helpers of James Island and the Charleston Animal Society said Friday they want to add $1,000 to the $1,000 reward offered Thursday by a "concerned citizen."

The kitten died Wednesday shortly after a visitor found it at Waterfront Park about 8:30 a.m. The woman who found the kitten told police she heard what sounded like a car horn on the bridge, followed by a thump near the picnic tables.

The kitten struck an awning, then landed on the ground, Mount Pleasant police Capt. Carl Ritchie said.

Carol Linville, president of Pet Helpers, said someone out there had to see something. "Whoever can do this has a very sadistic streak," she said.

Ritchie asked anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 884-4176.
