James Island woman said ex-boyfriend kicked in doors, hit her, drove off in her SUV

Dexter Lamont Robinson, 37, of 5th Avenue in Mount Pleasant was arrested Tuesday after his ex-girlfriend said he kicked down doors, hit her and drove off in her SUV.

A James Island woman said her ex-boyfriend kicked down doors, bloodied her nose and drove off in her SUV early Tuesday.

Deputies found the SUV parked nearby, the keys in the woman’s yard, and the suspect riding a bicycle several miles away.

Dexter Lamont Robinson, 37, of 5th Avenue in Mount Pleasant, was arrested and charged with first-offense criminal domestic violence, first-degree burglary and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

Charleston County deputies were called to Quail Drive on James Island about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The resident told them Robinson kicked in the back door and a bedroom and bathroom door, punched her in the face and made her nose bleed, took her keys and drove off in her SUV. A friend in the house witnessed the assault, according to an incident report.

Deputies found the SUV parked nearby on Montgomery Road and the keys in the yard beside the woman’s house, according to the report. They found Robinson on a bicycle at Albermarle and Folly roads, several miles away, and arrested him.
