SUMMERVILLE -- An investigation into a check forgery case has broadened to include burglaries and auto thefts, police said.

Police on Friday said three people wrote more than $2,500 worth of bad checks to 10 local businesses after stealing a purse from a woman's Summerville home on July 5.

After they released surveillance photos taken at Sears Grand on Ladson Road, police have received numerous tips and identified several suspects, police Capt. Jon Rogers said Wednesday. He would not release the suspects' names, saying it would hinder the ongoing investigation.

"So far it looks like they are involved in two burglaries, three auto thefts and one attempted auto theft, along with the forgery case," he said. "And that is just in the town of Summerville."
