KIAWAH ISLAND -- Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying a man whose body was found Thursday near Chapman Creek.

The man was described as white, about 5-feet-9 and 160 pounds with dark brown or black hair, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin said. He had a receding hairline and a full beard and mustache.

Martin said his age is between 20 to 50 years. He had no obvious tattoos.

There is no indication that he was recently reported missing, she said.

Charleston County sheriff's deputies and the Coast Guard responded to Kiawah Island about 10:30 a.m. Thursday after someone reported seeing a body in the water.

The body was discovered on the marsh side, Martin said.
