Charleston police this morning arrested a man charged with murder in a year-old shooting death downtown.

Police charged Darnell Seagers, 21, of Ranger Drive with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, department spokesman Charles Francis said.

Seagers is accused of fatally shooting Travis Antwan Anderson, 20, on Norman Street on Aug. 28, 2010.

Francis said officers took him into custody this morning while on patrol in the Gadsden Green public housing complex.

Police last year initially charged Seagers with obstruction of justice in connection with the shooting after investigators say he provided them with false information. It wasn't immediately clear when the charge was upgraded to murder.

Seagers is also facing an armed robbery charge from October of 2010, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.

He is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
