WALTERBORO -- Prosecutors announced that an important court hearing will take place today in the case of Jacoby Fields and Travis Harris, two men accused of killing Colleton County deputy Dennis Compton in 2008. Officials declined to release further information until the 10:30 a.m. hearing.

Compton was killed Aug. 6, 2008, while responding to a tripped burglary alarm at 699 Sunflower Drive near Smoaks. Both Harris, 20, of Smoaks and Fields, 19, of Walterboro, are charged with murder, second-degree burglary involving violence and four counts of first-degree burglary.
