Hanahan police identified a suspect in a rape that a 17-year-old girl reported last month.
The teen told police that the man, whom she knew by the street name Lil' Ammo, assaulted her as they spent the night at a home in the Berkeley Hills IV subdivision, Detective Cassie Watson said.
"She said that she had been out partying with some new friends that she met and that they had been doing some illegal narcotics," Watson said. "She did not know his real name at the time."
Watson gave this account:
The teen told police she stayed up until around 7 a.m. March 15 doing cocaine and muscle relaxants. She woke up to find a man on top of her, sexually assaulting her.
"She fought him off and ran from the residence," Watson said.
Police received a 911 call around 2:15 p.m. and found the teen wandering on Spring Hill Road, a couple of blocks from Murray Drive. She seemed dazed. She was forthcoming with officers about having used illegal drugs.
Watson said a television newscast Monday night helped identify the suspect as 23-year-old Kevin Thomas Brewer, whose last known address was in North Charleston. Police were looking for Brewer on Tuesday and were in the process of obtaining a warrant to charge him with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
