CHARLESTON - Barbara Hairfield, Charleston County schools' social studies coordinator, has been elected vice chair of the S.C. Education Oversight Committee.
Hairfield was appointed to the committee in August 2007. The committee is an independent, non-partisan group made up of 18 educators, business leaders and elected officials that is dedicated to reporting facts, measuring change and promoting progress within the state's education system. The committee provides a routine and ongoing review of the state's education improvement process, assesses how schools are performing, and evaluates the standards schools must meet.
Hairfield received her bachelor's degree in English and history from Winthrop University, and she earned her master's degree in teaching from The Citadel. She holds national board certification in early adolescent social studies/history and has spent the past 20 years teaching and working in Charleston County schools.
