Goose Creek teen Ian Bongalonta will participate in two more preliminary rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee today.

Ian, 14, a rising eighth-grader at Westview Middle School, won the Lowcountry Spellbound! competition on March 22 and is sponsored by The Post and Courier. He took the preliminary test, which is computerized, on Tuesday.

Rounds two and three today involve each of the 278 participants spelling two words on stage. No one is eliminated.

After the third round, scores from the test will be combined with the results of today’s rounds to determine the 50 semifinalists.

The preliminaries will be broadcast on from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today.

The semifinals will air on ESPN-2 at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the finals at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
