An electrical problem is believed to have started a fire that damaged a single-story home at 100 Cuthbert Drive in Goose Creek this morning.

Goose Creek Fire Chief Steve Chapman said the homeowners weren’t home when the blaze began, but passersby spotted the fire and notified authorities. Firefighters arrived at 7 a.m. to find smoke and flames chewing through the roof.

The home, in the Greenview subdivision, is on the corner of Old Back River Road and the blaze forced officials to divert traffic from the area as crews battled the fire. The road is now back open to traffic.

Fire crews had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, and they remained on the scene for about two hours to fully extinguish the fire, Chapman said.

No injuries were reported, Chapman said.
