The Goose Creek Police Department is looking into a possible case of child abuse to a 6-month-old baby.
On June 15, officers were called to Medical University Children’s Hospital, where a doctor told them he was treating the child for a severe skull fracture on the left side of his head that would be consistent with a fall onto a hard surface or being struck with a blunt object, according to the incident report.
The child’s parents, who do not speak English, said through an interpreter that the child was fussy and the side of his head was swollen when he was picked up from the sitter the day before, according to the report.
When they questioned the sitter, she told the parents the baby was sitting unattended on a carpeted floor when he began crying. She assumed he had fallen over and possibly hit his head on a toy, according to the report.
The child was released from the hospital and is in the custody of his parents.
No arrest have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
