The Goose Creek Police Department was recently reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

After a review of the department's files, facilities, vehicle fleet, operations and personnel, the reaccreditation was issued Nov. 19. It is designated as Accreditation with Excellence based on the commission's finding that the department "sets the benchmark for public safety professionalism."

This distinction was awarded to only a handful of agencies.

"Reaccreditation can serve to provide our citizens with an additional measure of trust and confidence by virtue of an independent examination of policy and procedure," Police Chief Harvey Becker said.

The department initially received Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies accreditation in 2002 and was reaccredited in 2006 and 2008.
