HENDERSONVILLE -- Authorities have identified the girl who died Monday after an all-terrain vehicle accident.
Calista Smith, 12, of Walterboro died from multiple injuries when the ATV she was riding on rolled on top of her, Colleton County Coroner Rich Harvey said Tuesday.
Colleton County Fire and Rescue crews and deputies responded at 1:44 p.m. to a house on Cavanaugh Road, south of Walterboro.
The Polaris Gator 500 overturned daring an attempted turn on a hill, according to a sheriff's incident report.
The ATV rolled over, critically injuring the girl and injuring the leg of another child, Colleton Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy said.
The girl was pronounced dead at Medical University Hospital at 4:50 p.m., Harvey said.
The second child, a 14-year-old girl from Marietta, Ga., was taken by ambulance to Colleton Medical Center in stable condition.
