Gift can help elderly woman who was injured stay at home

Wanda, a 75-year-old woman living in Berkeley County, was alone when she fell from her back porch in April. She lay in her yard for seven hours before a neighbor found her that evening.

She had sustained several severe fractures to her leg and had to have emergency surgery, followed by months of rehabilitation. Wanda has returned home and family members check on her daily. Unfortunately, during her hospitalization and convalescence, she incurred out-of-pocket expenses that caused her to fall behind on her rent and her electricity bill.

Wanda wants to be able to remain in the home in which she has lived for the past 20 years, and your generous contribution can help her do that.

Since 1927, donations to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry during the holiday season. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, Association for the Blind, Catholic Charities, Carolina Youth Development Center and the Lowcountry Food Bank. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at www.goodcheerfund.com.
