North Charleston police arrested an Atlanta man Sunday they said was trying to move more than 2 pounds of crystal methamphetamine into the area.

Ezell James Wood Jr., 34, faces a charge of trafficking crystal methamphetamine.

Narcotics investigators found 32.06 ounces — or slightly more than 2 pounds — of the drug in Wood's backpack, said Spencer Pryor, spokesman for the North Charleston Police Department.

The drugs have a street value of about $73,000, Pryor said.

Investigators arranged the delivery, which came from an Atlanta-based meth distributor who frequently traffics the drug to the Charleston area, Pryor said. They found Wood at the Cracker Barrel at 7351 Mazyck Road, where they arrested him.
