They’re called the Santee Cooper lakes, forged from a 1930s hydroelectric project and now known for abundant fishing, boating and parks.

To be precise, there are two bodies of water connected by a man-made canal: Lake Moultrie, which rims the Moncks Corner area and takes in much of Berkeley County; and Lake Marion.

Further inland than Moultrie, Lake Marion nonetheless is little more than an hour from greater Charleston via interstates 95 and 26. The lake, as with Moultrie, attracts its share of landowners who want to live in a peaceful setting near the water.

The number of folks who make this choice is hardly a groundswell, though, so there aren’t that many properties on the market at any one time.

One house for sale, however, benefits not only from being close to the lake but close to new. The property, priced at $509,000, is at 100 Red Cypress Landing in Elloree.

In describing the residence in his listing for ERA Wilder Realty in Santee, broker associate William C. Wannamaker III cited the variety of features it has to offer.

The property is a “beautiful, custom-built new construction waterfront home on Lake Marion,” says the Realtor, who goes by Scott. It also showcases “panoramic views of (nearby) Poplar Creek,” says Wannamaker, who with his wife lived in Mount Pleasant until a few years ago.

Along with its pristine views and upgraded style, 100 Red Cypress Landing provides a bunch of complementary perks.

The house is removed but not isolated, being situated in The Preserve at Lake Marion neighborhood. At the same time, the contemporary ranch home spreads across 2,956 square feet, and the lot is fairly large at .62 acres. The home was built in 2008.

As a custom dwelling, 100 Red Cypress Landing touts several upscale attractions. Interior features include a central vacuum system, wet bar, game room, sun room, vaulted ceilings, recessed lighting — and solid surface countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. There’s a fireplace with gas logs that’s framed by built-in bookshelves and cabinets.

The residence encompasses four bedrooms, three full baths and a powder room. A utility room has washer and dryer connections.

Outside perks are a landscaped yard, patio and two porches. The house also comes with a two-car garage. Sidewalks and a covered picnic area are neighborhood amenities.

According to Wannamaker, interested parties “must see this home to appreciate the views and quality.”

The house is on the west side of Lake Marion. To reach it, get on I-26 west to I-95. Travel north on I-95 for 12 miles to Santee and take exit 98 onto S.C. Highway 6 heading west. Turn right on State Park Road, then left on Cleveland Street. From there, make a series of rights onto Camp Daniels Road, Old River Road, Hickory Landing Court and Whispering Pine Lane. Make a left on Red Cypress Landing. Ahead on the left is 100 Red Cypress Landing.
