HARDEEVILLE -- Investigators say a fire that burned four businesses and a church in the Hardeeville area seems suspicious.

No injuries were reported in the fire that started about 3 a.m. Wednesday in a strip mall on U.S. 17.

A liquor store with a mini-mart, two bars and a Hispanic Seventh Day Adventist Church were destroyed.

Hardeeville Fire Chief Dan Morgan says evidence indicates the fire might have been intentionally set. Morgan says the fire spread quickly because there was no sprinkler system in the building.

Jasper County Chief Deputy Sheriff Roy Hughes says investigators think the fire started in the rear of one of the bars.
