The American Red Cross assisted a Moncks Corner family of seven, including two adults and five children, whose home was damaged by a kitchen fire Thursday.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., the Whitesville Rural Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Queenie Road, a firefighter said. By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze, a small kitchen fire, had been extinguished by a neighbor, the firefighter said.

There was some smoke damage and the family was unable to stay in the house. The Red Cross provided temporary shelter.
