Residents of two townhouses were displaced by a fire Monday night at Summit Place on Stafford Road in North Charleston, Fire Marshall Ray Hoshall said.

Two adults and three children lived in one of the townhomes. Two adults occupied the other. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for the homeless residents, Hoshall said.

Flames were coming out of a second-floor window when firefighters arrived at about 7 p.m. The fire was under control in a matter of minutes. It did not appear to be suspicious, Hoshall said.

Meanwhile, Charleston firefighters responded at about 5:30 p.m. Monday to a small fire at the Rhodia Chemical plant on King Street Extension. A plant crew quickly extinguished the fire at a pipe that is part of phosphorous trichloride production, which was shut down at the time, said plant manager David Hardin.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Hardin said. There was no release of vapors that would be considered harmful, he said.
